Donna (AKA Acadian Rose) was born in Moncton, raised in the fishing village of Richibucto and now resides in Hillsborough, New Brunswick. Her father, Dr. Theo Allard MD, was instrumental in her ‘maverick approach to life’. Her mother died of cancer when she was 19. Her first published poem was in the Fredericton High yearbook. She is an Anglophone born poet who volunteer’s in humanitarian causes.
Currently President of the Canadian Poetry Association (CPA), founder of Chocolate River Festival, owner River Bones Press and Allard Agency. Her expertise has been in demand as a judge for the 2004 Acorn-Plantos Book Award and 2004 Arts Hamilton Literary Award. She is listed in the Canadian Poets Registry. Her service includes serving for several years on the board of directors for the National Milton Acorn Poetry Festival, PEI Canada.
Donna's poetry has been included in various anthologies and edited three collections, Postal Code II, No Love Lost II, & Poetea for Six - CPA Signature Series. Presently she is Editor for the CPA magazine POEMATA, and publisher for the 2005 CPA 20th Anniversary Anthology, Harvesting Treasures, under her own River Bones Press. her own books, "Minago Streets", "Hands upon the Dunes" and "Bellwalker".
In 2005 placed 3rd for the World Poetry contest for Pablo Neruda 101st Celebration, Vancouver Public Library, Vancouver, BC, for 'Pablo Is an Island'.
